ROUND UP OF NEWS

The Blackpool Model Village & Gardens are the proud winners of the  “2008 Beautiful Blackpool” awards.

In September we were invited to the awards ceremony held at the Blackpool’s Town Hall Mayors Chambers.

We were presented with First Place in the “Commercial Garden” category and also a Highly Commended in the “Hanging Basket” category.

On your next visit to the BMV why not have a look in our awards cabinet.

Well done to our Head Gardener Michael for all his effort and hard work that is much appreciated and has not gone unnoticed by our visitors.

In 2009 children of all ages can enjoy a day out hunting for Hedgehogs and counting Bunnies and spotting those pesky Moles that keep disappearing underground. All these events are hugely popular with the youngsters and will of course be continued on by tradition into the following season.

A new event to the Blackpool Model Village & Gardens - we were invaded by some “Little Truckers” who had the most amazing scaled down trucks you would ever want to lay your eyes on. They put on a wonderful display for the visitors who traveled from far and wide to see them.

It goes without saying that we were completely smitten with these lovely works of art (the lads and lasses driving them weren’t bad either) and the weekend will be repeated on August Bank Holiday 2009.

BBC Radio Lancashire (Click here to go to the BBC Radio Lancashire) did us proud and visited the Blackpool Model Village to do a couple of live interviews and fun was had by all. Even the studio DJ’s wanted to visit. We are hoping to introduce a new model “studio building” in 2009, so maybe we can get them down again for a live broadcast.

On a note of supreme justice, our escaped prisoner from HM Prison Porridge was finally recaptured and returned to his rightful place behind bars to continue his sentence. The Governer of the prison, Mr. Fletcher was full of praise for the eagle eyed youngster who spotted the escapee climbing in a tree during a visit to the Model Village with her parents. He passes on his hearty congratulations to a budding bounty hunter.

Of course there are plenty of other things to see and do in Blackpool, itself, a quick glance at the local newspaper The Blackpool Evening Gazette or a trip to the Blackpool Tourist Information office will soon confirm that Blackpool is alive and buzzing.

So, settle back for ten minutes and have a look around the site.

Throughout the year there is always something going on at the Blackpool Model Village and Gardens.

Remember that it is ALWAYS being updated as events get added to the calendar and special events get planned.

What do you call a group of people whom all hold a title of Mayor or Mayoress? A group? A gaggle? A herd? A conference? Not that it matters, the all had a good time and that is all that counts.

It was a beautiful bright sunny day for a Mayors tea party and from all the smiling faces it was enjoyed by the large group of officials from various town councils across the  North West region. There is a big kid in everyone screaming to get out, even a Mayor.
